Holden Youth Weekend
Each
year youth from our congregation, and others, converge on Holden Village -
a remote retreat in the North Cascades accessible only by boat or trail.
Located near the end of Lake Chelan, Holden offers a unique environment to
grow in mind, body, and spirit. This year, some of our youth explain what
Holden meant to them...
Holden was a place to learn. I went up there expecting
a weekend of fun, and got a bunch extra. We had a Christian rapper as our
speaker, which was very interesting. Not only did he open our
minds, he blew us away with his amazing talent. Living without my "vital"
daily tools - curling irons, hair dryer, computer, and phone - taught me
how to appreciate the little things and how to live with more
self-control. Watching the Holden live-ins made me want to live more
humbly. They live a simple life, but everything in their "simple" life is
more complicated than you might think. I still have a lot more to learn.

P.S. The bread was great!
To try to live in Holden Village in the mountains was a
great experience. Theirs is a small world in itself. All the homemade food
was very tasteful, especially a warm fresh piece of their homemade bread.
The mountains were very beautiful, and the deer walked through the
village. We lived another life, close to nature and without electric
things like TV, cell phones, and radios.

Holden is a place where you feel God while being away
from the everyday life. When you are there you find that some things you
do at home are not really important and you learn you can live without
them. It is an awesome place to experience God and the simple things.

I came back from Holden with a fresh mind and a relaxed
body. The time spent there was very refreshing. It's a time away from the
fast pace lifestyle we live in. It's a great time to relax. You should try
it.

Holden Youth Weekend this year was awesome! For me, the
best part was spending time with all my church friends. There was also a
great rapper/speaker, Agape. Just being at Holden is exciting. Eating
vegetarian food, being surrounded by snow covered mountains, and being
around such "earthy people." It's such a relaxing yet exciting place. This
year lots of people in our group brought friends, so it was great to get
to know new people. It was a great opportunity to meet people in other
youth groups too. It was pretty cold the whole time. We even had a little
snow, which was cool since we don't get much of that around here. I had a
great time at Holden and I can't wait 'till next year.
- Megan L.
My weekend at Holden was a very inspiring time. I was
able to relax and calm down, and forget about the things I have to think
about back at home. I was moved greatly by Agape, our guest speaker. He
was awesome. He basically put the "WORD" into teenage language, so to
speak. I would really like to go back every chance I get. It was terrific.
